Ukraine army to get UAH 16 bln more in funding in 2019 - Poroshenko

Next year's defense and security budget will be over 5% of GDP.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has said that in 2019, funding for the Army will increase by UAH 16 billion ($581 million) against the previous year.

"Finally, our state budget sees defense spending alone exceeding 3% of GDP, while it is planned to spend more than 5% of GDP on the defense and security sector," Poroshenko said during a ceremony of transferring arms and military equipment to the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Zhytomyr region, according to an UNIAN correspondent.

According to the president, more than UAH 102 billion is set to be disbursed to the army next year. "This is UAH 16 billion more than last year with a stable U.S. dollar exchange rate," the president said.

“Finally, there is money for the future purchase of such advanced systems as Vilkha MLRS, which successfully passed the tests, Neptun cruise missiles, Bohdan self-propelled artillery, Sokil strike UAV, Kvitnyk high-precision projectile, and many other types of weapons," said the president.
