IT specialists who left Ukraine for the West several years ago have started returning home.

Head of the national IT Ukraine Association Dmytro Ovcharenko told journalists that half of IT specialists who had left the country in the first and difficult post-Maidan years "returned to their roots." It is about 2,500 specialists, according to the Novoye Vremya weekly.

Moreover, experts, who have recently planned to leave Ukraine, are now increasingly choosing to stay. According to a study conducted by the Better Regulation Delivery Office (BRDO) IT association, the pace of labor migration of IT specialists from Ukraine is dropping.

If every 10th worker in the industry went to work abroad in 2015, while last year it was only about 4% of the total number.

It is reported IT specialists began to leave Ukraine en masse in 2014-2015 due to economic instability and a threat of full-scale Russian aggression. Ovcharenko calls these factors the main reason for labor migration of industry specialists.

At the same time, according to Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of SoftServe, Yaroslav Lyubinets, the wages of highly qualified specialists in Ukraine are only 10-15% lower than, for example, in Poland.

"But, given the level of expenses and the cost of living, the level of wages in Ukraine remains competitive," Lyubinets said.

This principle works even in comparison with Western Europe, where programmers' incomes are twice as high as the Ukrainian level.

At the same time, the Ukrainian IT industry is growing faster than the global market – by 20% per year against the global 6.2%.
