Ukraine sees almost 25% reduction in natural gas imports in 2018

Last year, Ukraine bought over 60% of gas from Slovakia.

Ukraine saw a 24.6% reduction in imports of natural gas in 2018 from 2017.

Ukraine imported 10.59 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas in 2018, which was 3.46 bcm less than in 2017, the operator of Ukraine's gas transport system, Ukrtransgaz, has said.

Ukraine bought gas from Europe only.

In particular, 6.46 bcm of gas, or 61%, was imported via the Slovak gas transmission corridor, as well as 0.7 bcm arrived from Poland and 3.4 bcm from Hungary in 2018.

As UNIAN reported, Ukraine late in November 2015 stopped buying natural gas from Russia's Gazprom. In total, Ukraine doubled gas imports from Europe in 2015 from 2014, to 10.3 bcm, while reducing the purchase of hydrocarbons from the Russian Federation by 56.5%.

In the EU, Ukraine bought 11.1 bcm of gas in 2016 and 13.9 bcm of gas in 2017. The total cost of gas imported in 2017 amounted to $3.228 billion.
