NATO to continue using Ukraine's "Ruslan" freighter aircraft

The relevant contract was put in force Jan 1, 2019.

NATO will continue using for cargo transportation a pair of Ukraine's An-124-100 "Ruslan" aircraft produced by Antonov Design Bureau.

"The airplanes of Antonov Airlines, airlift subdivision of ANTONOV Company, will continue strategic airlift operations within SALIS (Strategic Airlift Interim Solution) program. The correspondent contract has been concluded for the next three years – until December 31, 2021," the state-owned Antonov wrote in a statement on Facebook Friday, Jan 4.

From January 1, 2019, "ANTONOV Company will have been providing two AN-124-100s on a constant basis to perform airlift missions in the interests of countries participating in SALIS program in accordance with the contractual obligations," the company says.

According to NATO data, airlift service customers within SALIS are 10 NATO Allies: Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Luxembourg, Norway, Poland, Slovakia, and Slovenia.
