Director of the Ukrainian Association of Trade Networks Suppliers Oleksiy Doroshenko says over the year, all types of alcoholic beverages, in particular, vodka and beer of Ukrainian origin, increased in price; one of the reasons is an increase in prices of apples and sugar.

Thus, prices of a bottle of domestic beer (0.5 liters) and a bottle of vodka (0.5 liters) went up by 11%, while those of table wines grew by 7%, he wrote on Facebook, referring to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.

Over the year, vodka (0.5 liters) rose in price by UAH 9.2 (US$0.33), while the price of beer (0.5 liters) went up by UAH 1.5 ($0.05). As of December 1, 2018, the price of a bottle of vodka (0.5 liters) was UAH 90.4 ($3.26) on the average, while that of a bottle of wine (0.75) was UAH 62.3 ($2.23). Domestic beer in December could be purchased for UAH 15.1 ($0.55) on the average.

Thanks to an increase in average wages and salaries, one Ukrainian citizen could have bought 111 0.5-liter bottles of vodka for an average monthly salary in August, that is, three bottles more than at the beginning of 2018. In late August 2018, a citizen could have bought 151 0.75-liter bottles of domestic dry wine, which was one bottle more than in January 2018.

"It's likely that in 2019 the purchasing power of our minimum and average wages measured in alcohol will grow due to the fact that its price will grow at a slower pace than incomes. So, we'll be able to buy more vodka, wine, and beer," the expert said.
