Ukrainian banks close almost 1,000 branches in 2018

Oschadbank, PrivatBank, and Ukrsotsbank shut down the largest number of their units.

Ukrainian banks in 2018 reduced the number of their operating structural units by 980, to 8,509 branches as of January 1, 2019.

In particular, state-run Oschadbank closed the largest number of branches in 2018, namely 575 units, while PrivatBank shut down 222 units and Ukrsotsbank – 178 units, according to the report posted on the website of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).

At the same time, many banks in Ukraine have increased the number of their branches. As reported, Alfa-Bank is in the lead with 65 branches opened, then come TAScombank (32) and Ukrbudinvestbank (20).

As of January 1, 2019, Oschadbank had the largest network of branches in Ukraine (2,630 units). It is followed by PrivatBank (2,021) and Raiffeisen Bank Aval (503).
