Ukraine banks reduce debt before NBU by over 10% in 2018

Refinancing debts before the central bank decreased by 4.1% in December 2018.

Ukrainian banks' debts before the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) for refinancing loans amounted to UAH 61.599 billion, or US$2.2 billion, as of January 1, 2019, which was 10.3% down from January 1, 2018.

In particular, in December 2018 alone, the banks' refinancing debts before the central bank shrank by 4.1%, according to the regulator's website.

The volume of NBU deposit certificates bought by the banks almost tripled in December 2018 and had decreased by 7.6% since the beginning of the year, to UAH 62.076 billion, or $2.2 billion.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukrainian banks' debt before the National Bank for refinancing loans fell by 7.9% in 2017, to UAH 68.891 billion ($2.4 million) as of January 1, 2018.
