"The trend continues. We see that in 2018, passenger traffic in the direction of Russia again fell by 15%. Moreover, if the traffic from Russia decreased by no more than 16%, the number of passengers going to Russia declined by over 15%. This is an objective reality. I'm glad that Ukrainians choose, on their own, the direction of the EU without instructions or artificial measures," he told Ukraine's Pryamiy TV Channel on January 15.

According to Omelyan, Ukraine is developing railway services with the European Union member states.

"More than 20 railway services have been launched in a very short period of time. We're developing routes both to Poland and Hungary. This year, I hope, the services in the direction of Slovakia will be launched, too. And this is just the beginning," he added.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine's Infrastructure Ministry was considering the possibility of closing the railway services with Russia. According to Omelyan, Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) and the government should make the final decision.
