Ukraine businesses offer outlook for hryvnia rate in 2019

Most Ukrainian CEOs (78.6%) say the hryvnia exchange rate against the U.S. dollar may exceed UAH 29 within the next 12 months.

The average exchange rate is expected at UAH 29.99 to the dollar in a year, which is worse than the rate projected in the previous quarter at UAH 29.6 to the dollar, according to a central bank's survey of the country's business leaders completed in the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2018 to assess the Business Expectation Index.

More than a third of respondents (34.6%) are convinced that the hryvnia exchange rate against the U.S. dollar will be in the range of UAH 29-30.

The survey was conducted from November 5 to December 4, 2018. In total, 675 enterprises from 22 regions of Ukraine took part in the poll, except for the occupied territories in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

The national budget of Ukraine for 2019 is based on the forecast rate at UAH 29.4 to the dollar by the end of 2019.

According to the expert consensus forecast compiled by UNIAN, the hryvnia exchange rate against the U.S. dollar at the end of 2019 is expected at UAH 30.

On Wednesday, January 16, hryvnia quotations against the dollar on the interbank forex market by the close of trade settled at UAH 28.05/28.08 to the dollar.

The hryvnia's historic low against the U.S. dollar was at UAH 30.01 per U.S. dollar in February 2015.
