Marketing Director at Metinvest Holding LLC Roman Kurashev says domestic producers of galvanized steel have been damaged due to the surge in imports of the produce at dumping prices from China and Russia.

"Against the background of the introduction of protective measures in Europe, the U.S., Canada, Turkey and some other countries, we expect a significant increase in imports from the PRC [People's Republic of China] and the Russian Federation, which will further worsen the situation of the domestic galvanizing industry. In this regard, the applicant insists on the introduction of preliminary anti-dumping measures in the form of a duty to stop price dumping, and hopes that government agencies will decide to introduce them soon," he told Metal Expert, according to the Ukrainian news agency Minprom.

According to the expert, the position of Ukrainian steelmakers may deteriorate further.

In addition, galvanized steel, which is imported to Ukraine at dumping prices, is of poor quality, he said.

As a result, it is not only Ukraine's steelmaking industry that is being affected, but also final consumers, who face falsifications by unscrupulous traders and processors, buying low-quality Chinese material under the guise of domestic products.
