The share of cash in the country's economy, relative to GDP, shrank to 10.3% from 11.1% in 2017.
The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) says cash hryvnia banknotes and coins in circulation in Ukraine grew by 10.7% in 2018, to UAH 400.1 billion (US$14.4 billion).

In particular, 13.1 billion coins worth UAH 2.2 billion ($79.2 million) and 2.95 billion banknotes worth UAH 397.8 billion ($14.3 billion) were in circulation as of January 1, 2019, the NBU's press service said in a statement on January 25.
The growth in cash demand stems from the need for the means of payment amid the growing economy, the report said.
At the same time, the development of cashless payments somewhat curbed the demand for cash, and its share in the country's economy, relative to GDP, shrank to 10.3% from 11.1% in 2017, according to the regulator's estimates.
The average number of cash means of payment per capita was 69 banknotes and 293 coins.
Two-hundred-hryvnia banknotes and 10-kopiyka coins accounted for 22.8% and 29.1%, respectively.
UNIAN memo. Today, such banknotes as 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, and 500 hryvnias are in circulation. Coins are available as 1, 2, 5, 10, 25, 50 kopiykas, as well as one- and two-hryvnia coins.
The National Bank in April 2018 introduced coins of new denominations, namely UAH 1, and UAH 2, into circulation. The regulator announced five- and ten-hryvnia coins will be minted to replace the banknotes of the corresponding denominations in 2019-2020.
