The Ukrainian Economic Development and Trade Ministry says Ukraine's Interdepartmental Commission on International Trade has decided to impose anti-dumping duties on food-grade extra fine salt and incandescent light bulbs originating from the Republic of Belarus.

The commission in November 2017 launched an anti-dumping investigation into the shipments of extra fine salt from Belarus to Ukraine in response to a complaint filed by the Russalt-Ukraine company, the ministry's press service said on January 25.

"The investigation established that dumping prices had been set for food-grade salt imported into Ukraine. So, the Interdepartmental Commission on International Trade decided to apply an anti-dumping duty set at 11.85% for suppliers from Belarus for a five-year period," the report said.

At the same time, Belarusian-based JSC Mozyrsalt voluntarily committed itself to stop dumping shipments and set minimum prices for certain goods shipped to Ukraine. The Interdepartmental Commission recognized the measure satisfactory and decided not to apply the final anti-dumping duty to the salt imported by Mozyrsalt.

An anti-dumping investigation into imports of Belarusian-made bulbs with the power rating not higher than 200 watts and voltage higher than 100 volts was opened at the request of Lviv-based JSC ISKRA in December 2017.

"The Brest Electric Lamp Plant (the only Belarusian manufacturer of incandescent bulbs) voluntarily offered to submit a written commitment to revise its price. However, the minimum export price proposed by the plant is not sufficient to eliminate dumping and damage to the national producer. Therefore, the Interdepartmental Commission on International Trade decided to apply an anti-dumping duty set at 17.73% to the shipments of incandescent bulbs originating from Belarus," the press service said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, trade between Ukraine and Belarus increased by 20% in 2017, to US$4.6 billion.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko estimates the Ukraine-Belarus trade potential at about $10 billion per year.
