Deputy Minister of Regional Development, Construction and Housing and Utility Services of Ukraine Lev Partskhaladze has proposed that the State Building Codes (SBC) be changed and developers foresee access to high-speed Internet (wired and wireless) in each room of hotels.

"Life without the Internet is impossible in the 21st century. Today it is used almost everywhere: at work, leisure, and when studying. Therefore, hotels also need to offer Internet access, which should be provided for when designing them. However, the existing state building codes for the design of hotels have no requirement for Internet-access devices. Therefore, now when updating the SBC, we have to envisage the access to Internet in each room of hotels. The changes will be made public and take effect soon," he wrote on Facebook on January 29.
According to the official, the corresponding amendments to the SBC, titled "Buildings and Structures. Hotels," have already been approved, and will be published soon.
Partskhaladze added that when calculating of Internet access points in hotel buildings it is recommended the possibility of installing at least two Internet-access devices in each room (unless otherwise specified in the design task) be taken into account.
"Internet-access devices shall also be installed in the main common areas. For example, in halls or lobbies," he wrote.
As UNIAN reported, the Regional Development Ministry earlier obliged to design rooms for needs of people with disabilities, accounting for at least 10% of all rooms in a hotel.
