Ukraine plans to raise almost US$640 mln against World Bank guarantees in Feb

The World Bank in December 2018 approved the provision of a financial guarantee for Ukraine for US$750 million.

Ukraine's Ministry of Finance has postponed borrowings from January to February to raise UAH 17.6 billion, or almost US$640 million at the current official exchange rate, against World Bank guarantees.

To ensure the financing of the national budget in January, the ministry replaced this source of foreign borrowing with domestic borrowings, the ministry said on its website.

Thus, government domestic loan bonds worth UAH 41.7 billion in the equivalent were placed in January. Of them, there were hryvnia-denominated bonds worth UAH 24.4 billion and bonds denominated in foreign currency, namely US$ 587.4 million worth of dollar-denominated securities and EUR 33.3 million worth of euro-denominated securities.

As reported by UNIAN, the World Bank in December 2018 approved the provision of a financial guarantee for Ukraine for US$750 million, under which the Finance Ministry on December 27 raised loan funds in the amount of EUR 349.3 million, which was channeled into the national budget.
