Ukrzaliznytsia receives 30 GE locomotives

The Ukrainian company earlier signed a framework agreement with General Electric on the supply of up to 225 locomotives worth US$1 billion to Ukraine.

CEO of Ukrainian national railways company PJSC Ukrzaliznytsia Yevhen Kravtsov says the company – under the agreement with General Electric signed in 2018 – has received the last five GE locomotives, which, like the previous 25, will be sent to Ukraine's Kremenchuk-based PJSC Kryukivsky Railway Car Building Works for final assembly.

"Ukrzaliznytsia has received all 30 contracted General Electric locomotives. The last five arrived at Ukraine's port of Chornomorsk on Friday. Then they will be supplied to Kryukivsky Railway Car Building Works, where 10 more U.S. locomotives are undergoing final assembly," the official wrote on Facebook on February 4.

According to Kravtsov, the locomotives turned out to be extremely effective, outperforming previously used pieces.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukrzaliznytsia signed a framework agreement with General Electric on the supply of up to 225 locomotives worth US$1 billion to Ukraine. Under the contract, the local content share is set up to 40%.

At the first stage of the deal, a purchase and sale contract was signed between General Electric and Ukreximbank for the delivery of 30 GE TE33AC diesel locomotives late in 2018 and early in 2019 with the local content share being 10%.

On November 8, Ukrzaliznytsia tested the first General Electric diesel locomotive in a freight train at the Kremenchuk-Romodan railroad section.

Ukrzaliznytsia will pay $4.68 million per GE locomotive of the first batch.
