Ukraine reduces gas imports by 70%

The largest volumes were imported from Slovakia.

Ukraine in January 2019 reduced imports of natural gas by 70%, or 553.8 million cubic meters, year-on-year, to 247.7 million cubic meters, that's according to the gas transmission system operator, the state-run Ukrtransgaz.

According to the company report, over the said period gas was imported exclusively from Europe.

Ukrtransgaz says in January 2019, some 122.7 million cubic meters was imported through the Slovak gas transmission corridor, as well as 40 mcm and 85 mcm from Poland and Hungary, respectively.

As UNIAN reported earlier, in 2018, compared with 2017, Ukraine reduced gas import by 24.6%, or by 3.46 billion cubic meters, to 10.59 bcm.

At the end of November 2015, Ukraine stopped buying natural gas from the Russian Gazprom. In general, in 2015, the country doubled the imports of natural gas from Europe y-o-y to 10.3 billion cubic meters, while reducing by 56.5% the purchase of hydrocarbons from Russia.
