Ukraine reports US$2.5 bln in FDI in past year – NBU

Agricultural and trade enterprises received significant investment, the regulator said.

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) says foreign direct investment in Ukraine's economy in 2018 was estimated at US$2.5 billion, while 60% of this figure was channeled into the real sector.

The volume of foreign direct investment in the fourth quarter of 2018 (Q4) rose to $0.8 billion, which was almost entirely injected into the real sector's equity capital, according to the NBU's January 2019 Inflation Report.

It is noted that equity capital of agricultural enterprises, as well as those involved in wholesale and retail trade, received significant investment.

The inflow of foreign direct investment in the banking sector remained almost at the level of last year, the report said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, foreign direct investment in Ukraine's economy in 2017 totaled $1.871 billion, with the largest share of investment from Cyprus, the State Statistics Service said.

The National Bank of Ukraine estimated foreign direct investment in Ukraine's economy in 2017 at $2.307 billion. The amount without taking into account banks' conversion of debt into charter capital was $1.8 billion.
