Ukrainian delegates announced at a meeting of the World Trade Organization's Committee on Trade Facilitation, which was held in Geneva on February 12-13, that Russia failed to fulfill its obligations regarding freedom of transit after a ban had been imposed on goods imported into Russian territory via Ukraine.

"The Ukrainian delegation drew the committee members' attention to the ban introduced by the Russian Federation on the import into its territory of certain goods transported in transit through the territory of Ukraine from third countries, members of the WTO," the Ukrainian Economic Development and Trade Ministry's press service said in a statement on February 14.

According to the Ukrainian side, such measures are inconsistent with provisions of certain articles of the WTO's Agreement on Trade Facilitation and, as a result, create additional obstacles to transit shipments of goods.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on December 29, 2018, Russia adopted a resolution that, among other things, prohibited the importation of certain goods into its customs territory, which were transported through Ukraine's territory.
