Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman intends to significantly reduce salaries of top managers at the National Joint-Stock Company Naftogaz of Ukraine when concluding a new contract with them.

"We've appealed to the independent supervisory board and asked them to consider concluding a new contract from March 22 only on new terms. Salaries, bonuses, and so on should be reduced significantly, otherwise the government will not support this," he told a Ukrainian TV channel on February 19.

The head of government recalled that the Cabinet of Ministers had recently decided not to renew the contract with the company's current management after its expiration in late March of 2019.

Groysman says Naftogaz CEO should not receive a US$2 million salary annually, suggesting it is just too much.

"Well, a manager of a state-owned company should not earn two million dollars a year. Right? Managers in Europe and, in particular, in Poland, get $500,000, not $2 million," he added.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the Cabinet of Ministers on January 16 announced the suspension of contracts with Naftogaz's current management from March 22. The Cabinet also appealed to the company's supervisory board regarding the revision of conditions for the payment of salaries and bonuses to its managers.
