The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine says the farmers, as of February 18, are fully provided with spring seeds in the amount of 684,000 tonnes required for the 2019 spring sowing campaign.

"The expected availability of spring seeds is 684,000 tonnes, or 100% of the demand," the ministry's press service said on February 19.

The sown area under crops for the 2019 harvest in all categories of Ukrainian farms is expected to be around 27.7 million hectares (ha), or at the level of 2018.

"This year, it is planned to sow grain crops on an area of 14.8 million ha, accounting for 54% of the total sown areas structure, which meets the standards for the optimal ratio of crops in crop rotations," the report said.

In particular, spring grain crops are projected to be sown on a 7.2 million ha area. At the same time, the structure of the grain area may be adjusted depending on the winter crops wintering conditions by optimizing areas under spring crops, in particular, maize for grain, and late cereal crops.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the crop area for the 2018 harvest totaled 27.2 million tonnes, which almost corresponded to that of 2017.
