Hryvnia strengthens by 3.2% against dollar in Feb

Ukrainian hryvnia at the official exchange rate of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) strengthened against the U.S. dollar by 3.2% in February 2019, to UAH 26.86 to the dollar as of March 1.

Under the period under review, the hryvnia also strengthened by 3.8% against the euro, to UAH 30.66 to the euro, as reported on the NBU's website.

According to the cited data, since the beginning of the year, the hryvnia has strengthened by 3% against the dollar and by 3.3% against the euro.

According to the regulator, the yield of hryvnia domestic government bonds in February remained at a high level, which contributed to the inflow of foreign portfolio investment and, together with the increase in exporters' earnings, the prevalence of the revaluation trend in the foreign exchange market.

Ukraine's national budget for 2019 is based on the forex rate expected at UAH 29.4 to the dollar by the end of 2019.

According to the consensus forecast compiled by UNIAN on the basis of experts' estimates, the hryvnia exchange rate against the U.S. dollar at the end of 2019 is expected at UAH 30.

The hryvnia's historic low against the U.S. dollar was UAH 30.01 per U.S. dollar in February 2015.
