Regional gas companies across Ukraine, mostly owned by Ukrainian businessman Dmytro Firtash, sold to industrial customerws certain volumes of natural gas intended to be distributed to households, Naftogaz CEO Andriy Kobolyev told a press conference in Kyiv Wednesday, March 6.

The official says the fact was revealed thanks to a newly-introduced daily gas balancing information system developed by Ukrtransgaz.

"I'd like to say that today at a meeting hosted by the regulator and initiated by Ukrtransgaz, a very interesting question was discussed. The daily gas balancing system revealed the facts that the gas that Naftogaz passed to gas distribution companies was partially resold to commercial companies," Kobolyev said.

“This should be followed by a detailed investigation: why and how it happened. And most importantly, how often it happened in the past,” added the Naftogaz CEO.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on Marcch 1, 2019, Ukraine switched to a daily balancing of the gas market, which meets the requirements of the Third Energy Package of the European Union.

In late December 2018, the energy regulator in Ukraine (NEURC) once again postponed the launch of daily gas balancing from December 1 to March 1, 2019. Prior to that, at the end of September, the launch was postponed from October 1 to December 1, 2018.

In November 2018, Naftogaz accused regional gas distribution companies of sabotaging the implementation of the daily balancing of the gas market.
