Naftogaz CEO donates US$66,143 to charity

In 2018, the Naftogaz Supervisory Board decided to pay $46.3 million in bonuses to its managers following their victory in the legal battle with Russia's Gazprom.

CEO of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine Andriy Kobolyev says he has donated UAH 1.77 million (US$66,143) in income, received as Naftogaz CEO, to charity in less than two months.

"Since making my decision, I've made three transfers, that is I donated the balance of my January salary and full salary for February (in two parts). A total of UAH 1.77 million," he wrote on Facebook on March 6.

According to Kobolyev, information on his January salary remittance is already available on the websites of three funds he channeled his earnings into, while the latter are preparing information on the receipt and use of his February salary.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Kobolyev in late January announced his intention to donate all his income, received as Naftogaz CEO in 2019, to charity.

The company's official clarified the money would be transferred in equal proportions to three charity organizations, namely Narodny Tyl (to support families of dead soldiers), Povernys Zhyvym [Come Back Alive] (to support the army), and Tabletochki (to help children with cancer).

In 2018, the Naftogaz Supervisory Board decided to pay $46.3 million in bonuses to its managers following their victory in the legal battle with Russia's Gazprom.

Taking into account the arbitration award under the gas transit contract, Gazprom must pay Naftogaz a total of $2.6 billion.

In early June, Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman appealed to the Naftogaz Supervisory Board to review the decision to pay $46.3 million in bonuses to its management due to the company's victory over Russia's Gazprom in the Stockholm Arbitration.

In July, the Cabinet of Ministers also banned the payment of bonuses and rewards in state-owned companies.

Members of the board of national oil and gas holding Naftogaz of Ukraine in 2017 earned a total of UAH 127.7 million ($4.8 million), according to Naftogaz's annual report for 2017.

In particular, Naftogaz CEO, Chairman of the Executive Board Andriy Kobolyev received UAH 47.1 million ($1.8 million), First Deputy Chairman Serhiy Pereloma – UAH 17 million ($635,277), Chief Financial Officer Serhiy Konovets – UAH 15.2 million ($568,012), Executive Board Member Yuriy Kolbushkin – UAH 14 million ($523,169), as well as two board members since May 2017: Oleh Prokhorenko – UAH 24 million ($896,861) and Mykola Havrylenko – UAH 10.4 million ($388,640).

As reported, all the management (six board members and nine directors) earned UAH 214 million ($8 million) in 2017.

In total, the company incurred about UAH 25.5 million ($952,915) in expenses in 2017 for the operations of the supervisory board.
