Inflation in Ukraine slows to 8.8% in Feb y-o-y

Over the period under review, a decrease in prices was reported for fruit, eggs, fuel and oils, and clothing.

Inflation in Ukraine in February 2019 slowed to 8.8% year-over-year (y-o-y) against 9.2% recorded in January 2019 y-o-y.

Consumer prices in Ukraine grew by 0.5% in February 2019 from January 2019 (after rising by 1% in January against the last month of 2018), while they rose by 1.5% from December 2018, the State Statistics Service said.

The highest increase in February 2019, in annual terms, was recorded in prices of vegetables (by 41.2%), road passenger transport (27.2%), railway passenger transport (26.8%), sewerage services (23.4%), and natural gas (22.9 %).

Over the period under review, a decrease in prices was reported for fruit (21.6%), eggs (14.4%), sugar (6.7%), fuel and oils (5.9%), and clothing (0.5%).

Core inflation in Ukraine in February 2019 was 7.8% y-o-y, 0.2% from January 2019, and 0.5% from December 2018.

The State Statistics Service said the report does not include data from Russian-occupied areas in Crimea, Sevastopol and parts of Luhansk and Donetsk regions.

As UNIAN reported earlier, inflation in Ukraine in January 2019 slowed to 9.2% y-o-y.

The national budget of Ukraine for 2019 is based on a macroeconomic forecast with the real GDP growth by 3% amid inflation of 7.4%.

The National Bank of Ukraine predicted a slowdown in inflation to 6.3% in 2019, while the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank – to 7.3%.

According to the consensus forecast by experts polled by UNIAN, this year, Ukraine will see a slowdown in consumer price growth to 7.2%.
