Ukraine more than doubles rye exports since July 1

Ukraine exported 85,100 tonnes of rye since July 1, 2018, when the 2018-2019 marketing year began (MY, July 2018 - June 2019), which was 2.2 times higher than shipments for the whole 2017-2018 MY.

This is a record high figure in the last 16 years, the press service of the UkrAgroConsult consulting agency has said.

"In July-January of MY 2018-2019, Ukraine exported 85,100 tonnes of rye, which is already 123% higher than exports for the whole MY 2017-2018 (38,200 tonnes) and is the highest figure for the period since MY 2002-2003," it said.

The key market for Ukrainian exporters of rye in the current season is the European Union. Thus, for seven months of MY 2018-2019, Ukraine exported 51,200 tonnes of rye to the EU, which was 66.2% of the total supply, which was 90% more than during the whole MY 2017-2018.

At the same time, Israel remains one of the main sales markets for Ukrainian rye. In the reporting period, Ukraine already exported 36% more rye to that country than during the entire MY 2017-2018.

Also, according to the agency, Poland, the largest European importer of Ukrainian rye, significantly increased its purchases in the first seven months of this season compared to the previous season.

"In addition to the EU, the export geography of Ukrainian rye in the current season has expanded due to supplies to the Philippines and Bangladesh. Bangladesh was one of the main buyers of Ukrainian rye in MY 2015-2016 and MY 2016-2017, and deliveries of Ukrainian rye to the Philippines this season were carried out for the first time," it said.
