State energy holding Naftogaz Ukrainy has been on the brink of default since 2009, the chairman of the board of the NJSC Naftogaz Ukrainy Andriy Kobolev said on Ukrainian television’s 5 Channel on Tuesday, according to Ukrainian information agency RIA Novosti Ukraina.
"Naftogaz has been on the verge of default for a long time, since 2009. The situation of the company is changing, but [the threat of default] is still there," Kobolev said.
As reported earlier, on Friday, the international rating agency Fitch downgraded the ratings of Naftogaz and a number of large Ukrainian companies after the lowering of the sovereign rating of Ukraine.
