Some 9 bcm of natural gas stored in Ukraine's underground facilities

Stocks of natural gas in Ukraine's underground storage facilities since the beginning of the heating season on November 7, 2018, have shrunk by 47.2%, or 8.12 billion cubic meters (bcm), to 9.080 bcm.

The gas stocks as of March 16, 2019, were 5.5% higher year-over-year (8.6 bcm), state-run Ukrtransgaz, which operates Ukraine's gas transport system, said.

The Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities are now filled by 29.3%.

Some 26.52 million cubic meters (mcm) of natural gas was pumped out from the storage facilities on March 16 alone.

As UNIAN reported, Ukraine on November 7, 2018, stopped pumping natural gas into its underground storage facilities and started using the gas for household heating.

As of the beginning of the 2018-2019 heating season, Ukraine had accumulated 17.2 bcm of gas in its underground storage facilities, which was a record high amount over the past six years.

UNIAN memo. Ukrtransgaz uses 12 underground storage facilities whose total active capacity is about 31 bcm. They are part of the country's gas transmission and transit system. The company is also the operator of the main gas pipelines that are used to ship natural gas from Russia to European Union (EU) countries and import gas from the EU to Ukraine.
