Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman has said the Cabinet of Ministers, Ukraine's government, will extend the contract with Naftogaz of Ukraine CEO Andriy Kobolyev for another year.

"Today, following consultations, we will make a decision to extend the contract with the company's management on these terms for another year with monthly and quarterly reports on achieving these goals. Moreover, if the goals are not achieved, it will be a reason for termination of the contract," Groysman told a government meeting.

According to the prime minister, the contract will be extended subject to the fulfillment of three basic positions.

"The first one is a certified GTS operator from January 1, 2020, the second is an increase in gas output to achieve energy independence, and the third is that the new management has no sky-high bonuses and rewards, while their wages should be cut at least in half from today's level. The Supervisory Board agreed to these proposals," Groysman said.

He added the government would also announce a competition for the post of head of the board of Naftogaz, which will be held on March 20, 2020.

After this, the government meeting was interrupted by members of the Radical Party of Ukraine protesting against extending the contract with Kobolyev.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the Cabinet of Ministers on January 16 announced the suspension of contracts with Naftogaz's current management from March 22. The Cabinet also appealed to the company's supervisory board regarding the revision of conditions for the payment of salaries and bonuses to its managers.

On February 28, the Supervisory Board of the National Joint-Stock Company Naftogaz of Ukraine decided to extend the contract with Naftogaz CEO, Chairman of the Executive Board Andriy Kobolyev and set his monthly salary at UAH 2.08 million (US$77,094).

Later the same day, Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman said that the government had not taken any decisions on concluding a new contract with Kobolyev.
