The Ukrainian national currency, the hryvnia, surged back to UAH 27 to the dollar on the interbank currency market on Wednesday evening after a meeting of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko with NBU Governor Valeria Gontareva.
However, hryvnia quotations against the dollar on the interbank currency market on Thursday have since slumped to UAH 30.50/34.50 to the dollar, a broker at a commercial bank has told an UNIAN correspondent.
According to the source, trading on the market was chaotic, and demand was virtually nonexistent.
According to the National Bank of Ukraine, the weighted average exchange rate of the hryvnia as of 1200 was UAH 26.3071 to the dollar, with two deals concluded by this time worth a total of $60,000.
As UNIAN reported earlier, hryvnia quotations against the dollar on the interbank currency market on Wednesday had settled by the middle of trading day at UAH 22.00/27.00 to the dollar.
