Canada interested in buying Ukrainian eggs, meat, apples

Canada is interested in importing Ukrainian food products, in particular, eggs, meat and apples.

This was announced after a meeting between head of Ukraine's State Food Safety and Consumer Protection Service Volodymyr Lapa and a regional representative of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, the Ukrainian regulator's press service said.

During the negotiations, the parties discussed shipments of Ukrainian products onto the Canadian market. In particular, the Canadian party expressed interest in the import of Ukrainian eggs, meat products, and apples.

"In this regard, a mission of the authority of Canada will arrive in Ukraine in May to inspect the national system of state control," the Ukrainian regulator said.

In addition, the parties discussed the results of the work of the Canadian inspectors' mission on evaluating the state control system in the field of beekeeping, which worked in Ukraine from February 18 to 22.

The ministry added that the final inspection report should be expected within two months.

As UNIAN reported, the Canadian mission to evaluate the system of state control in beekeeping worked in Ukraine from February 18 to 22. The free trade area between Ukraine and Canada entered into force on August 1, 2017. The agreement simultaneously lifts up to 98% of trade restrictions and customs duties in mutual trade between the two countries. At the moment, the agreement focuses on commodity exports and imports, but within two years after the agreement entered into force, the parties will be able to review the terms of trade and add services and investment protection mechanisms to the list.
