Ukraine boosts poultry exports by 1.43 times in Jan-Feb

Saudi Arabia, the Netherlands, Slovakia, and Azerbaijan were major buyers of Ukrainian poultry.

The Ukrainian Food Export Board (UFEB) says Ukrainian farmers in January-February 2019 boosted poultry meat exports by 1.43 times year-over-year (y-o-y), to 69,000 tonnes.

In the first two months of 2019, Ukraine set a new record in terms of poultry meat supplies onto foreign markets. Poultry exports over the period under review totaled 69,000 tonnes, which was by 77.4% up on the same period in 2017 and 42.7% up on the same period in 2018.

According to experts, the major buyers of Ukrainian poultry meat were Saudi Arabia (8,400 tonnes), the Netherlands (4,400 tonnes), Slovakia (3,200 tonnes), Azerbaijan (1,900 tonnes), Iraq (1,500 tonnes), Armenia and Germany (1,300 tonnes each), and Moldova (1,100 tonnes).

At the same time, poultry imports into Ukraine for the two months shrank by 24%, to 21,400 tonnes against 28,400 tonnes y-o-y.

It is noted that the key suppliers of poultry meat to Ukraine became Poland (6,300 tonnes), Hungary (1,300 tonnes), and Germany (890 tonnes).

As UNIAN reported earlier, exports of poultry and by-products from Ukraine in 2018 in physical terms grew by 21.2%, to 328,900 tonnes and by 30% in monetary terms, to US$506.6 million, according to the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine.
