Recently revamped Poltava Airport has launched its first international flight after being closed for more than 15 years.
"The first international flight of the new Ukrainian airline SkyUp departed from Poltava Airport, which has not operated for more than 15 years... It is now fully operational," Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Omelyan wrote on Facebook on March 26.

Director of Poltava Airport Volodymyr Okara says tourists flew by Boeing 737-700 with all 149 seats occupied. The next flight to Sharm el-Sheikh will take place on April 2, 2019.
"We are working under an agreement with the tour operator Join Up. This is a charter flight. Next Tuesday all the tourists will return to Poltava," he added.
Acting Chairman of Poltava Regional State Administration Roman Tovsty says about UAH 68 million (US$2.5 million) was spent on the airport's renovation. In particular, the runway was repaired, the lighting equipment was upgraded, and the terminal building was overhauled. Moreover, the airport needs de-icing equipment for work in winter, as well as a fire truck, which will require additional UAH 60 million ($2.2 million). About UAH 30 million ($1.1 million) is expected to be allocated from the state budget for renovating the runway.
In May, the airport is to launch flights to Turkey's Antalya, they will be carried out once a week.
On December 20, 2017, Poltava Airport received an international airport's status under a government resolution.
As UNIAN reported earlier, the revamped Poltava Airport on July 29, 2018, welcomed its first Yakovlev Yak-40 passenger plane from Ukraine's city of Zaporizhia.
In January 2017, Poltava Regional Council approved a program for the development and support of Poltava Airport for 2017–2020 with UAH 351 million ($13 million) in funding.
UNIAN memo. Poltava Airport was built in the '50s-'60s. Its last passenger terminal was built in 1985. The airport is located 7 km west of the city of Poltava. It has a passenger terminal with a total area of about 5,000 square meters and a design capacity of 400 passengers per hour. The airfield is suitable for aircraft operation whole year without restrictions, amid daylight hours.
