Ukraine sees meat price hikes

Chicken fillet, beef and pork jumped in price the most.

The Ukrainian Retail Suppliers Association says the price of meat in Ukraine has grown by 12% within a year.

"Prices of chicken fillet, beef and pork jumped the most," the Association said as reported by the TV news service TSN.ua on March 29.

Cooked sausage went up in price substantially, to almost UAH 95, or US$3.5, per kilogram. The price of salo (lard), a traditional Ukrainian food, increased the least, by 7%, it said.

As was reported on March 15, Ukraine in the first two months of 2019 imported 4,300 tonnes of pork worth $7.9 million.

Poland was a major supplier of pork to Ukraine: pork worth $4.7 million was bought there. Germany ranked second. In January-February 2019, Ukraine imported pork from Germany to the tune of $1.5 million. Denmark was third. Pork imported from Denmark totaled US$829,000.
