The hryvnia, Ukraine's national currency, in March fell against the U.S. dollar by 1.3% to UAH 27.21 (at the official rate of the National Bank of Ukraine/NBU), but rose against the euro by 0.3%, up to UAH 30.57.

In January-March 2019, the hryvnia strengthened against the dollar by 1.7%, while rising against the euro by 3.6%, the regulator said on its website.

The NBU added that the situation in the forex market in March remained favorable due to the inflow of foreign portfolio investments and the growth in foreign currency supply from bank customers in the first half of the month due to the completion of the deadline for paying annual taxes to the national budget.

At the same time, in the second half of March, the demand for currency increased, partly due to a number of random purchases by individual market participants.
