Ukrainians buy more currency than they sell in March, first time since Dec

In March, Ukrainians bought through the banking system a total of $1.137 billion in cash, which is $77.3 million more than they sold in the reported period, the National Bank of Ukraine says.

The purchase of currency by the population through banks exceeded its sale for the first time since December last year, when Ukrainians bought in banks $110.1 million more than they sold.

At the same time, the rate of currency sales by the population through banks from year-start, over the first quarter, remains $161.6 million higher than the purchase.

UNIAN memo. In December 2018, Ukrainians bought through the banking system $110 million more foreign currency in cash than they sold, while for the whole year, the sale of currency by the population through banks exceeded its purchase by $1.5 billion.
