Inflation in Ukraine slows to 8.6% in March y-o-y

The prices rose by 0.9% in March 2019 from February 2019.

Inflation in Ukraine in March 2019 was estimated at 8.6% year-over-year (y-o-y) against 8.8% recorded in February 2019 y-o-y.

The prices rose by 0.9% in March 2019 from February 2019 against 0.5% in February 2019 from January 2019, according to the State Statistics Service's website.

Consumer prices in Ukraine grew by 2.4% in March 2019 from December 2018.

The highest increase in March 2019 y-o-y was recorded in prices of vegetables (by 37.7%), tariffs on passenger transportation by rail (28.6%) and by road (27%), sewerage (25.2%), and prices of natural gas (22.9%), the report said.

Over the period under review, a decrease was recorded in prices of fruit (by 22.6%), eggs (18.1%), sugar (5.8%), and fuel and lubricants (3.5%).

Core inflation in Ukraine in March 2019 was 7.6% from March 2018, 1.2% from February 2019, and 1.7% from December 2018.

The State Statistics Service said the report does not include data from Russia-occupied areas in Crimea, Sevastopol and parts of Luhansk and Donetsk regions.

As UNIAN reported earlier, inflation in Ukraine in February 2019 stood at 8.8% y-o-y, having slowed from 9.2% recorded in January 2019 y-o-y.

The national budget of Ukraine for 2019 is based on a macroeconomic forecast with a 3% increase in real GDP amid 7.4% inflation.

The National Bank of Ukraine predicts a slowdown in inflation to 6.3% in 2019, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank project 7.3% inflation.

Experts polled by UNIAN forecast the growth of consumer prices will slow to 7.2%.
