The price of its main component, a home-baked Easter cake, will be about UAH 85 ($3.17) per kg.
Director of the National Scientific Center "Institute of Agrarian Economics" Yuriy Lupenko says the price of the Ester traditional products kit, the so-called "Easter basket," in Ukraine in 2019 has increased by 5.1% against 2018, to UAH 532, or US$19.83.
In particular, the price of a traditional Easter cake, eggs, homemade sausage, baked ham, lard, creamery butter, soft and hard cheese, horseradish and salt will grow by UAH 26 ($0.97), or by 5.1%, from 2018, when the minimum kit of products cost UAH 506 ($18.86).

According to Lupenko, the price of the main component of the Easter basket – a home-baked Easter cake – will be about UAH 85 ($3.17) per kilogram (kg). At the same time, the price of an Easter cake in stores and supermarkets will be higher since it depends on the ingredients.
The expert noted two factors affecting the price of the Easter cake.
"On the one hand, this is a rise in the price of milk, butter, flour, and raisins. On the other hand, it depends on an increase in the cost of energy for bakeries," he said.
The most expensive components of the festive basket this year will be meat products. In particular, 0.5 kg of home-made sausage will cost UAH 104 ($3.88), which is 2% more than last year. The price of 0.5 kg of baked ham will be UAH 98/$3.65 (4.3% up) and that of 0.5 kg of lard will grow to UAH 35 ($1.30).
The price of cheese is the highest among the Easter basket's dairy products, that is UAH 71/$2.65 per 0.5 kg. Then come butter (UAH 70/$2.61 per 0.5 kg) and cottage cheese (UAH 32/$1.19 per 0.5 kg).
At the same time, the cheapest products will be eggs (UAH 24/$0.89 per 10 eggs), as well as horseradish (UAH 12/$0.47 per 250 grams).
When the Easter basket is filled with other minor components, such as tomatoes, cucumbers, apples, red wine, its cost will increase to UAH 711 ($26.50), which is UAH 51 ($1.90), or 7.7%, up against 2018. In addition, a bottle of the church wine "Cahors" this year will cost UAH 118 ($4.40) on the average.
According to the expert, the increase in the price of the Easter basket compared to previous periods will be insignificant, whereas last year it rose by 34.2% from 2017.
As UNIAN reported earlier, inflation in Ukraine in March 2019 stood at 8.6% year-over-year (y-o-y), having slowed from 8.8% recorded in February 2019 y-o-y.
