Ukraine working to meet conditions to get EUR 500 macro-financial aid from EU – minister

Bills on the customs reform are under consideration by the parliament, according to the minister.

Ukraine's Finance Minister Oksana Markarova says Ukraine is now fulfilling the conditions to receive the second tranche of macro-financial assistance from the European Union worth EUR 500 million.

"Today we are confidently following the path of fulfilling the obligations required for Ukraine to receive the second tranche of macro-financial assistance. The Finance Ministry's important bills on customs reform are still under consideration by parliament, but we hope for their speedy approval," the ministry's press service on April 15 quoted Markarova as saying following a meeting with Vice-President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis during the World Bank-IMF annual spring meetings in Washington D.C.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the European Council in June of 2018 approved the fourth package of macro-financial assistance to Ukraine in the amount of EUR 1 billion.

In December 2018, the European Commission provided Ukraine with the first tranche of the fourth package of macro-financial assistance: EUR 500 million at par was lent at an interest rate of 1.25% per annum until April 2033.

On March 15, the Finance Ministry reported that the EU evaluation mission on the provision of the second tranche of macro-financial assistance worth EUR 500 million was working in Ukraine, predicting the receipt of the funds not earlier than April of 2019.
