Deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in goods 4.5% up in Jan-Feb

Exports of commodities to Russia shrank by 12.4%, to $475 million.

Deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in goods in January-February 2019 was estimated at US$760 million, which was 4.5% up from the deficit recorded year-over-year (y-o-y).

Exports of goods from Ukraine over the period under review rose by 7.9%, to $7.955 billion, while imports of goods to Ukraine grew by 7.6%, to $8.715 billion, according to the State Statistics Service's website.

The ratio of coverage of imports by exports was 0.91 in January-February 2019, just like in 2018.

Over the period under review, Ukraine traded with partners from 202 countries.

Exports of goods to the EU countries grew by 4%, to $3.457 billion, while imports of goods from the EU rose by 10.2%, to $3.626 billion.

Exports of commodities to Russia shrank by 12.4%, to $475 million, while imports of goods from the Russian Federation decreased by 9%, to $1.160 billion.

Earlier, the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) estimated the deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade balance in January-February at $1.312 billion, which was almost twice the figure estimated by the State Statistics Service.

UNIAN memo. The NBU estimated the deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in goods and services in 2018 at $11.492 billion, which was 32.9% up from the deficit reported in 2017.

The State Statistics Service in turn estimated the deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in goods and services in 2018 at $5.826 billion, which was 2.3 times up against the deficit recorded in 2017 at $2.501 billion.
