In December 2018, the Cabinet of Ministers decided to unbundle the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine by splitting it into the State Tax Service and the State Customs Service.
First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Maksym Nefyodov will occupy the position of head of the State Customs Service, while Deputy Finance Minister Serhiy Verlanov will head the State Tax Service, according to the results of the competition, Ukraine media suggest.
Deputy Chairman of the State Fiscal Service (SFS) of Ukraine Yevhen Bambizov (now acting chief of the SFS) is expected to become Verlanov's deputy, the Ukrainian business news outlet Ekonomichna Pravda reported on April 16, with reference to sources in the government and the tax service.
The competition will complete on April 23.
As was earlier reported, the Higher Public Service Corps Commission had nominated three candidates for the posts of heads of state tax and customs services each.

Deputy Finance Minister Serhiy Verlanov, CEO of Standart Audit Dmytro Alekseenko and Deputy Minister of Justice Serhiy Petukhov were nominated candidates for the post of a tax service head.
Vice-Rector of the University of Customs and Finance Yevhen Harmash, First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Maksym Nefyodov, and head of the public organization Center for the Development of the Digital Economy Andriy Savarets became candidates for the post of a customs service chief.

According to the National Agency of Ukraine for Civil Service, seven candidates per each service submitted documents for participation in the competition.
According to the Memorandum on the new program of cooperation between Ukraine and the International Monetary Fund, the reorganization of the SFS is planned to be completed by the end of April this year.
