As reported by the press office of the Ministry of Energy and the Coal Industry, the call for Ukraine to follow the EU rules was made by the Head of the Energy Community Secretariat Janos Kopacz during a meeting with the Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Demchyshyn.

Ukraine earlier reported to the European Energy Community on the preparations for introduction of the Third Energy Package in the electricity and gas sectors.

The Ukrainian Energy Ministry stressed that the European side confirmed its readiness to cooperate with Ukraine in the field of the improvement of Ukrainian legislation, and the standards worked out prepared by the government and included into the bill "On the natural gas market" have been highly commended by European specialists.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the Third Energy Package is designed to establish a common EU energy market and to eliminate national barriers to trade in electricity and natural gas through enhancing security of supplies and developing competition within the EU, which, in turn, will improve the quality of services provided to European consumers.

The Ukrainian authorities have pledged to implement the provisions of the Third Energy Package in Ukraine by the end of 2015.
