Ukraine's central bank seeks talks with IMF on new program

Under the existing program, Ukraine this year may receive two more loan tranches worth $1.3 billion.

The National Bank of Ukraine considers appropriate launching negotiations with the International Monetary Fund on a new program that will be needed after the existing one is completed.

“Ukraine should initiate a new program with the IMF, on which negotiations should begin this fall, after the completion of the next revision of the existing program," National Bank Governor Yakiv Smolii told reporters at a Kyiv briefing Thursday, April 25.

At the same time, he recalled that under the existing stand-by program, which expires in February 2020, Ukraine this year may receive two more loan tranches worth $1.3 billion each, following the reviews scheduled for May and November.
