Ukrainian farmers sow spring grain, leguminous crops on 94% of planned area

Some 156,000 hectares have already been sown with wheat crops, which is 95% of the target.

Ukrainian agrarians as of April 25 had sowed early spring grain and leguminous crops on 2.1 million hectares (ha), which accounted for 94% of the planned area.

In particular, wheat was sown on an area of 156,000 ha, or 95% of the target; spring barley on 1.5 million ha (96%), oats on 188,000 ha (96%); maize on 1.2 million ha (27%), peas on 286,000 ha (87%), sunflower on 2.2 million ha (38%), and soybeans on 177,000 ha (10%), the Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry's press service said on April 26.

In addition, Ukrainian farmers sowed sugar beets on 206,000 ha, or 84% of the target.

As UNIAN reported early, Ukraine started planting early spring grain and leguminous crops on March 4.

In 2018, Ukraine harvested a record high yield of grain, having threshed 70.1 million tonnes.
