"We have survived the winter, and we bought only two billion cubic meters of gas,” Poroshenko said.

“Our last purchase was at a price below $300. As a result, the Russian Federation had to make an application to increase our volumes of pumping by 68%... As of today, we are going to buy reversible gas at $245 per 1,000 cubic meters."

As reported earlier, the Russian Federation didn’t supply gas to Ukraine in 2014 for almost half of the year. The supplies were resumed on December 9 after the signing of the so-called winter gas package last October.

According to Ukrainian gas transiting company Ukrtransgaz, in December Ukraine imported 488.106 million cubic meters of Russian gas, in January – 920.314, and in February – 924.311. From March 1 last year to March 1 this year, gas imports from Russia amounted to 37.81 million cubic meters.

The winter plan for gas supplies to Ukraine will expire on March 31, after which Kyiv and Moscow will have to negotiate a new deal.
