Ukrainian President-elect Volodymyr Zelensky's adviser on economy, finance and taxation Danylo Hetmantsev says those citizens who receive income from the government only should be exempt from mandatory nationwide declaration of assets.

"As we propose, nationwide declaration [of assets] should not be applicable to those who receive income from the state only. It simply does not make sense. And thus, if taxpayers don't submit their statements, they confirm they don't have any other income," he wrote on Facebook.

The expert also stressed that the mandatory nationwide declaration should be a consistent step after capital amnesty.

Hetmantsev added that declarations should be submitted in electronic form.

"Perhaps it will be news to someone. But filing an assets declaration is our constitutional duty (Article 67 of the Constitution of Ukraine)," he wrote.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukrainian citizens declared UAH 73.1 billion (US$2.8 billion) in income received in 2017 during the 2018 declaration campaign, which was 16% up from the previous campaign.

The number of millionaires was 18.6% up, to 4,817 people.

Two Ukrainian citizens declared their 2018 income exceeding UAH 1 million, or $37,750, during the 2019 declaration campaign.
