Ukraine's foreign trade deficit almost doubles in first three months

Ukraine's foreign trade in services showed a surplus over the period under review.

The deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in commodities and services in January-March 2019 almost doubled to US$390.5 million year-over-year.

The deficit of foreign trade in goods alone rose by 13% in the first three months, to US$1.456 billion, while foreign trade in services showed a surplus, which grew by 2%, to $1.489 billion, the State Statistics Service of Ukraine said on its website.

Earlier, the National Bank of Ukraine published its estimates, according to which the balance of foreign trade in goods and services of Ukraine in January-March 2019 showed a deficit of US$2.013 billion. It was 3.7% higher than the deficit in the same period of the previous year.

UNIAN memo. According to NBU estimates, Ukraine in 2018 saw a deficit of US$11.492 billion in foreign trade in goods and services, which was 32.9% higher than the deficit in 2017. At the same time, the State Statistics Service of Ukraine estimated Ukraine's foreign trade deficit in 2018 at US$5.826 billion, or 2.3 times higher than the deficit in 2017.
