The 5G standard is to be launched in 2020.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed a decree on providing conditions for the launch of 5G, the fifth generation of mobile telecommunications technology, in Ukraine.
"Today I'd like to sign a presidential decree to clearly set up the schedule that will allow us to launch the fifth generation of [mobile] communications [technology] in 2020. The plan envisages [5G] frequency [bands and spectrum] allocations, the relevant work coordinated with the government, as well as the necessary legislation initiated by the Verkhovna Rada [Ukraine's parliament]. And the main thing is that people will be able to receive absolutely new telecoms services," he said at a signing ceremony broadcast on some Ukrainian TV channels on May 17.

"Today, on World Telecommunication Day set by the United Nations, we celebrate another historic milestone, realizing that the fifth generation of communications will be operating in most EU states. Already now, it is working in the United States and China, and we are not going to fall behind," the president said before signing the decree.
Poroshenko added that the 5G standard means new opportunities for people, the IT sector, and the government, as well as new revenue to be sent to the national budget, and new investment in Ukraine's economy.
"Ukraine is definitely not lagging behind. And this is the main change that has taken place over the past five years. Ukraine is among the leaders, and we must do everything so that the 5G standard starts working in Ukraine in 2020," he said.
