Ukrainian agrarians as of May 20 sowed spring grain and leguminous crops on 6.6 million hectares (ha), which accounted for 91% of the planned area.

In particular, maize was sown on an area of 4.3 million ha, or 92% of the target; buckwheat on 23,000 ha (24%); and millet on 37,000 ha (64%), the Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry's press service said on May 20.
In addition, Ukrainian farmers sowed sugar beets on 220,000 ha, or 90% of the target, sunflower on 5.1 mln ha (90%), and soybeans on 1.2 million (65%).
As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukrainian farmers on May 2 completed sowing of early spring crops on 2.1 million hectares.
In 2018, Ukraine harvested a record high yield of grain, having threshed 70.1 million tonnes.
The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center earlier reported that spring grain crops in some Ukraine's western regions need to be re-sown as bad weather conditions had damaged them.
Experts also predicted the yield of grain in Ukraine in 2019 might shrink by 2.4% from 2018, to 68.4 million tonnes.
