Ukraine's Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry says the entry into force of a new state standard of Ukraine for wheat, which will meet international standards, has been postponed from August 1 to June 10, before the start of the 2019-2020 marketing year (MY, July 2019 - June 2020).

"The development of a new standard for wheat is the result of common work, finding compromises and taking into account the interests of all market participants. It's important that the standard will come into force before the start of the new 2019-2020 marketing year, so there will be no inconvenience regarding changes in wheat classes during the crop's storage and transportation," the ministry's press service quoted Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Olena Kovalyova as saying on May 23.

According to the official, the new standard provides for the reduction of the number of classes for soft non-food wheat from three to one, raising and refining bakery quality indicators, as well as harmonizing with international and European standards.

As UNIAN reported, the business community earlier urged the Agrarian Policy Ministry to postpone the introduction of new quality standards for wheat from August to early June.

The Technical Committee of the National Agrarian Academy of Sciences updated the national standard for wheat in October 2018.
