The management of Ukraine's state-run Ukroboronprom Concern has appointed Oleksandr Chursin as CEO of the state-owned Malyshev Plant located in Ukraine's city of Kharkiv.

"The new CEO of the plant, who will take up his duties on May 30, has been tasked to continue upgrading and modernizing the production, as well ensure [the plant's] capacity utilization. The priorities include timely payment of wages and compliance with the appropriate social standards for workers," the Concern's press service said on May 29.

The former CEO, Oleksandr Khlan, who had performed his duties since May 30, 2016, was dismissed after his contract had expired, it said.

The Concern is convinced that Chursin's appointment will make it possible to use the plant's scientific, technical and production potential more effectively.

"Chursin has considerable experience in the armored industry. Before being appointed CEO of Malyshev Plant he had been serving as director of Ukroboronprom's Armored Equipment Division, where he coordinated the activities of almost two dozen industry enterprises. In addition, Chursin has experience as a design and chief engineer at a number of research and engineering enterprises," the report said.

UNIAN memo. The state-owned Malyshev Plant is Ukraine's largest manufacturer of armored vehicles. In collaboration with Kharkiv-based Morozov Machine Building Design Bureau and Kharkiv Engine Design Bureau, the plant produces modern prototypes of special tracked and wheeled military vehicles, and also offers programs for modernizing equipment that are in service in many countries across the world.

Malyshev Plant's main areas of production: heavy armored vehicles (the Oplot main battle tank, BREM-84, modernization of T-64, T-72, T-54/55/62 tanks), light armored vehicles (BTR-3U, BTR-4, and BTR DOZOR-B, modernization of the BTR-60/70, BTR-50, and BMP-2), as well as combat modules for light armored vehicles. The enterprise was transferred to Ukroboronprom's management on November 17, 2011, due to the plant's unprofitable performance, the main reasons for which were insufficient funding under the state order and the lack of strategic management.
